Firm History
Bell, Orr, Ayers & Moore traces its history back over 80 years to December 1, 1920, when its founder, Charles R. Bell, began practicing law. For over 25 years, Mr. Bell practiced law in Warren County in associations with some of the most prominent names in the history of our local bar association, including Mills M. Logan (member of the Kentucky Court of Appeals), R.C.P. Thomas, Thomas W. Thomas, Leland H. Logan, George W. Meuth, Lee Stagner, and the late Congressman William H. Natcher.

The firm began as Bell, Stagner & Orr on January 1, 1946, with Joe B. Orr becoming a partner at that time. The firm was known as Bell & Orr until the late Supreme Court Justice Charles H. Reynolds became a member of the firm in 1954, and the name became Bell, Orr & Reynolds. In 1970, Justice Reynolds left the firm and the firm became known as Bell, Orr, Ayers & Moore.

Charles R. Bell, Joe B. Orr, and Jerry L. Moore are deceased, and Reginald L. Ayers remains an active "of counsel" contributor to the firm. Former partners Quinten B. Marquette and Ray B. Buckberry, Jr. have also retired from the firm but remain active on an "of counsel" basis.

Bell, Orr, Ayers & Moore has experienced significant growth and expansion in its practice, with the firm nearly doubling in size since 1990. Although the firm has a long history and traditional practice values, Bell, Orr, Ayers & Moore has been progressive. For example, in the early 1990’s only a “handful” of women were practicing law in the Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky. Today, women constitute approximately one-third of Bell, Orr, Ayers & Moore’s practicing attorneys, providing services in areas ranging from litigation to estate planning.

We are proud of our long history. No firm in south central Kentucky has a longer history of continuously providing legal services. We are confident that with the superb group of young lawyers on staff at Bell, Orr, Ayers & Moore, that tradition will continue for many years to come.
